| The Toll of the Sea (1922) [Lotus Flower]: Commits suicide by drowning herself in the ocean. (The final reel of this film is lost, so I don't know whether her death was originally depicted on-screen or not; the restored version ends with a shot of the ocean and a title card suggesting her fate.) Piccadilly (1929) [Shosho]: Shot in the chest by King Ho-Chang in her bedroom. Her body is shown afterwards when Hannah Jones discovers her, and the murder is shown in a flashback later on when King confesses. Java Head (1934) [Princess Taou Yuen]: Commits suicide by drinking poisoned tea. (Thanks to Steve) Dangerous to Know (1938) [Lan Ying]: Commits suicide by stabbing herself, while Akim Tamiroff is playing the organ with his back towards her. Lady from Chungking (1942) [Kwan Mei]: Executed by a Japanese firing squad; as her body falls out of frame, her spirit is shown still standing in place and continuing her defiant speech. |
